LIFE+ Olivares Vivos (Living Olive Orchards) is a project that “pursues to establish a profitable model for olivoculture that is compatible with nature conservation, through the creation of certification mechanisms that guarantee an added value of the oils sold under the ´Olivares Vivos´ lable.” The Project is led by the Spanish nature conservation NGO SEO Birdlife.

As part of the project, which is executed in Sevilla (Southern Spain), SEO Birdlife and the environmental consultancy company Ibero-Rest, plant native tree species in degraded areas, parcel borders and river basins, in order to increase biodiversity and reduce soil erosion and degradation. In order to guarantee a succesful plantation under the most harsh conditions, the project partners have to use the Cocoon technology.

Volterra, the partner responsible for networking and replication activities within LIFE The Green Link, has advised SEO Birdlife and Ibero-Rest on the application of the Cocoon within their plantations and donated a total of 25 Cocoons to the project.

In order to guarantee a successful plantation under the most harsh conditions, LIFE+ Olivares Vivos has chosen to use the Cocoon technology for some of their planting activities. The project plants indegenous tree species in order to increase biodiversity and reduce soil erosion and soil degradation.
