Land Life Company awarded with funding for environmental project on refugee camps

The Dutch Postcode Lottery has awarded a support of more than €2 million to the ´Green Refugee Camp´ project of the UNHCR and The Green Link project partner Land Life Company. The project aims at the improvement of sustainability and liveability of refugee camps, starting with the Minawao camp in northern Cameroon.

Most refugees in this camp live in plastic tents and rely on firewood for cooking. The poor-quality stoves that are used are inefficient and produce large amounts of toxic smoke, which has negative effects on human health and the environment. The ´Green Refugee Camp´ project aims to improve the people´s livelihoods through the building resilient housing, planting of 40,000 trees and the provision of more energy-efficient stoves.
