Replanting of olives and biochar experiment in El Bruc
22/10/2018, by Volterra
Today the team of Volterra with the support of Javier Fernández of Carbón Vivo replanted 150 olives in one of the terrains where the first plantation did not work out as expected. Back in november 2016 due to heavy rains and frost most of the young arbequina olive trees did not survive. Now, with the experience of the 2017 planting we decided to replant 150 cornicabra olive trees that have adopted well in other areas of the El Bruc plantation.
This time we added another variable together with replication partner Carbón Vivo. This recent startup is adding value to forests by generating sustainable biochar which in turn is an excellent soil improver closing the cycle and locking carbon back into the soil. We have tested the Cocoon with and without biochar which will give us interesting new data and monitoring activity. We will keep you posted on progress.
