Monitoring visit plantation site Jijona, Alicante

Last week the Volterra team paid a visit to the Jijona plantation site, as part of the monitoring activities for LIFE The Green Link. Although part of the Cocoons and saplings had been damaged by animal depredation and the heavy weather conditions of the past months, the plantation was in good shape, with a survival rate of over 90%. Because of the high herbivore pressure in the area (rabbits), the team decided to place a more resistant type of tree shelters over the coming weeks.

Coming spring the plantation activities in Jijona and Tous will be continued.

Over 90% of the planted saplings was still alive, more than three months after plantation. In order to protect the young trees against rabbit herbivory, the team decided to replace the shelters for more vigorous ones. Despite the heavy weather conditions of the past months, the plantation in Xixona was still in good shape.
