A cable linked to a huge canary pine caused the beginning of the forest fire that burned down 10.000 ha last month, in Gran Canaria, as appears in the first reports. That tree, located on the slope of the Virgin cliff (Valleseco), started to burn and the fire spreaded to the top of the hill instantly.

As a consequence, the 100 tress planted with cocoons were included in the tree loss in the Herdades das Aguas en Arucas area.
