Catalonia

You are here: Home / Project Areas / Catalonia

The planting areas are located in the Municipality of El Bruc, approx. 10 km east of Igualada and 15 km west of Terrassa. In August 2015, a big fire damaged an area of about 1.300 ha, that was already partially burned in 1986, with some areas highly degraded. This area is adjacent to the Montserrat Mountains, a unique geological formation and a very emblematic geographical point in Catalonia, which was also burned partly in 1986. The challenge is to reforest part of this heavily damaged area that suffers from prolonged periods without rain in the summer.

The proposal is to use adaptive and economically interesting species (olives, oak trees inoculated with truffles etc.) and in general to create more diverse, multi-species areas of resilient and productive forest.
